My time in Ecuador has now come to an end, it had been short but sweet but I feel like I had seen a lot of the country even in the short time I’d been there. My favourite part of course being the homestay in the Amazon (despite the fact I actually nearly died twice when rafting, no exaggeration!)
Anyway it was now time to experience my first South American night bus and border crossing into Peru. Given all of what I had read online the night bus really wasn’t bad at all, I’d say it was far comfier than any coach or bus I’d been on in England, and it even had chargers and recliner chairs and they provided free food!! The border crossing itself was definitely one of the worst things I’ve seen in my time here. It really was quite shocking, I won’t go into it more than that but it sure did make me feel grateful. I passed through the border in just over 2 hours, exiting Ecuador walking through ‘no mans land’ and entering Peru. A little more ink in my passport! Now it was back on the coach for 3 and a bit hours and heading to the beach!!!
Mancora was where I’d be spending the next 3 days. It was known as one of the best beaches in Peru and a hot spot for surfers. I sure wasn’t disappointed to find out my accommodation was on the beach - I’m such a beach person so I’d been looking forward to going to Mancora since I landed in Quito! I had an amazing 3 days relaxing on the beach, trying out the local cafes, bars, restaurants and night clubs. One morning I did beach front Yoga with 2 other girls which was so good, but god it made me realise how unflexible I am! The food I’d had in Ecuador hadn’t been anything to write home about so I was so impressed with the seafood in Mancora - one night I had seafood curry which was amazing, sushi another night and I even tried the local dish called Ceviche (raw fish). One night we did cocktail making on the beach before watching sunset and I’m now a pro at making Pico Sours (the famous cocktail of Peru!)
