Cusco

I spent a total of 6 nights in Cusco which seems pretty long thinking about it but it’s the base for all excursions to Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu etc (which I have already done blog posts about if you wanted to read!) it’s probably the biggest city in Peru, other than the capital,Lima. I also spent Halloween in Cusco which was so much fun and like nowhere I’d ever been before for Halloween, they go large!! Sadly I didn’t dress up but did seem to acquire parts of other people’s outfit throughout the night! Cusco by far has the best night life out of anywhere so far in Peru so I went out 4 out of 6 nights which I definitely paid the price for in hangovers!

Luckily there is so many amazing cafes (where I could nurse my hangover!) and bars (for hair of the dog!), a personal favourite of mine being Limbus Rooftop bar (which I actually went to 3 times!) also pretty much anywhere in San Blas which is the area I was staying in. Everyone raves about this Australian ran place called Jacks, I ate there once after the night bus and it was good but if there is a big queue outside I wouldn’t say it was worth the wait - also quite pricey!

I did one of the free walking tours around Cusco which was great for free stuff - I got a pisco sours and a lama keyring all for free! I also did cave in and buy a lama jumper, trying to find room for it in my backpack was quite hard but I will need it when I get to Bolivia and it’s cold and it cost the equivalent of about £6 - absolute bargain!

I also did a salsa class which was fun, although I think I’m going to need about 1000 more lessons to even gasp the concept! Although I had a slightly sketchy experience on the way there with this man who followed me for a bit then obviously was trying to steal my phone or purse or something but kept asking me for a pen in Spanish, but I still have all my things don’t worry!! I managed to catch up with somie friends I had met earlier on in my trip in Ecuador and went to see an Amy Winehouse tribute which was so good.

I went to visit the Maras Salt terraces and another Inca ruin which were both pretty amazing to see. It’s made me quite excited for going to visit the salt flats in Bolivia now, although I know they are very different. I also stopped by at the Piuray Lake not far from Cusco and had an amazing lunch by the lake. It was nice to chill out in the hammocks with the alpacas and lamas nearby - managed to avoid getting spat on again! Thankfully.

I’ve got 2 more days in Peru which I am spending in Laka Titicaca before I cross the border to Bolivia!
