After the Buhay Isla expedition I spent a total of 5 nights in El Nido. I had originally planned to spend only 3 nights but unfortunately due to getting food poisoning I decided to extend, although let’s be honest there is definitely worse places I could have been sick! And I loved El Nido so I could have happily spent a whole week there. My hostel was right on the beach so I hardly felt like I missed out when I was unwell. Annoyingly it was from chicken which I hadn’t eaten since being home in England over Christmas. Silly me - back to being veggie again!
Anyway I stayed in 3 hostels which was a bit of a faf moving from one to the other - with it being peak season everywhere was booked up! My favourite hostel was definitely outpost which was right on the beach in Corong Corong and had the best view and atmosphere for sunset. Also free shots! I spent 1 day at Corong Corong beach but it wasn’t the best beach in Le Nido. I also stayed in Big Paul’s which was another party hostel. Free rum and coke all night was the best! Who’d have known about 2 weeks ago I never even drank rum, but when it’s free it’s for me!!

Across the 4 days in El Nido I did 1 boat trip (tour D) - I’d read online that the best tours to do were tours A and C but again with it being peak season everywhere was so busy so we went for D which was much quieter. 6 of us rented a private boat which was really nice. We had a Lagoon and the beaches all to ourselves which is just what you want for the best experience and photos!
I spent one of my days at Lio beach which was definitely my favourite beach in El Nido. It was a lot less crowded that Nacpan beach and only 15 minutes from town (where as Nacpan is 40!) There is also a free shuttle which goes there from town which is a bonus! I went to this really nice cafe for brunch and has a lush Açai bowl - reminded me of being in South America when I used to eat them all the time!
Another beach I went to was called Maremegmeg beach which led onto Las Cabanas beach. It was definitely the more upmarket area of town. There was lots of expensive looking Resorts with their infinity pools and they are in the process of building a shopping complex. I hang out in a hammock pretty much all day there and watched sunset with some friends. There is a zip line which you can do which apparently has great views over all of El Nido but I gave that a miss due to my food poisoning!
My next stop is the sleepy town of Port Barton where I am spending 3 nights.
