Puerto Princesa

So I didn’t actually want to spend anytime in Puerto Princesa as the reviews I’d read online said there wasn’t a lot to do there compared to the rest of Palawan but as I had a flight booked out of there quite early in the morning I had to stay for 1 night! The main attraction in Puerto Princesa is the Underground River, which is one of the natural wonders of the world. It’s technically not in Puerto Princesa though, it’s in a small town about an hour away called Sabang. So I got a early bus from Port Barton and left my luggage at a local cafe in between Sabang, Port Barton and Puerto Princesa then headed on a tour to the Underground River!

Before we got to the Underground River, I paid a visit to the Mangrove River which was actually pretty amazing to see. We saw so much wildlife on the boat tour including lizards and snakes!

After lunch I got a boat from Sabang port over to where the Underground River was and that was where the tour began! The wait was finally over!! (I’d be up since 5am and it had been a long day of waiting around!) The Underground River technically is a cave which goes * kilometres into a mountain but on the tour we only were allowed to go around 3 kilometres into the cave via boat. The only light we had in the cave was from torches and other than that it was pitch black. You could hear the sounds of water dripping and bats flying around. We were only in the cave for around 40 minutes but it was incredible to visit - so many stalagmites and staligtites and other amazing rock formations!

I got the bus back to my accommodation in Puerto Princesa then went out to dinner with a friend. Tomorrow I’ll be flying to Cebu where the next leg of my Philippines travelling begins!
