Siquijor

From Cebu I got a ferry for 4 hours which went to Siquijor, via Bohol (where I will be visiting after Siquijor!) Siquijor is known as a mystical/enchanted island and for years people all over the world people have gone there to see the talented spiritual healers. Although the ferry was packed with people the island itself is very quiet, apparently some of the Filipino’s are scared of the mystical island so don’t visit! Everything is very spaced out so you either need to get trikes/taxis everywhere (which can be expensive) or rent a scooter, which I did! I met up with some friends I’d met a few weeks earlier in Coron and after a lesson on their scooter I was good to go on my own! It was so nice to have the freedom to get around by myself rather than being driven everywhere!

On my first night there it was Friday night so after dinner of fresh squid and watching the sunset I went out with some friends to a local Filipino party which was fun. They definitely love Bruno Mars, Techno and karaoke - wierd combo I know but it was a fun night!

One day we drove up into the mountains to see the healers. I saw a ‘Bolo-Bolo’ healer who is meant to to remove all the impurities from your body...! Not sure if it really worked but hey when in Rome!
We also went caving which was really good. I’d never done caving before mainly because I have a fear of small dark spaces so this possibly was my worst nightmare! But my fear went completely out the window and before I knew it I’d climbed an hour and a half through a cave!

My hostel in Siquijor was probably one of the nicest hostels I’ve stayed in since I’ve been in the Philippines - It was right on the beach, had great breakfast and it had a pool! The beach was right in front of the hostel and it was really quiet. It had some beautiful sand banks you could walk out to and see starfish and crabs.

On my last day there I went out to explore the enchanted tree and there was a natural fish foot spa right underneath by the tree. I’d never done one before but the fish really tickled your feet while eating them!
In the afternoon I drove to Paliton beach which is one of the most popular beaches on the island, sadly it was a little grey but I still managed to see a beautiful sunset.
I think Siquijor might just be my favourite Island I’ve visited so far in the Philippines!

I’m heading on the ferry to Bohol tomorrow where I’ll be for 3 nights. My next post will be all about that!
