Udaipur

We arrived to Udaipur after getting a 6 hour ride via train. The train was very different from the train we got from Delhi to Agra and again very different from the trains back home! Having said that it wasn’t an awful experience, as I managed to hold on going to the toilet! There wasn’t much space as I was sat on my backpack with 2 other people crammed next to me. All I can say is thank god for Netflix for seeing me through the journey! (And Anthony if you’re reading I’m still using your Netflix, thank you!!)

I was spending 3 nights in Udaipur and our hotel was one of the nicest we’d stayed in so far (I think I’ve said this every time but they keep getting better) and it actually had hot water which was a dream! We arrived at the hotel and had dinner on the rooftop terrace, another very nice curry... You’d think by now I’d be sick of curry but actually each region of India has its specialty’s and even when you order the same dish it always comes out different from the place you ordered it last!

In the afternoon we went to this local painting shop - the people there were amazingly talented. One of the artists even drew a peacock with a paintbrush on my finger nail - Incredible! In the evening we went to see some more traditional dancing. A 73 year old lady dancing with 12 pots on her head was pretty impressive!

The next day I enjoyed a much needed lie in before setting out to explore the town and the lake! After hours of shopping and bartering it was time to enjoy a roof top bar with views over the Udaipur Lake.
In the evening I had signed up to have my palm read... Apparently I’m going to live until I’m 90 so that’s one positive! A plam reading isn’t something I thought I wanted to do but a lot of the group were having theirs done and I just thought when in Rome (or India!)
After the palm reading a group of us did a cooking class which was good fun. We were drinking lots of beer throughout so it was more of a cooking demonstration rather than us actually cooking (thankfully!) but it was interesting to see how they make the currys and seeing what ingredients they use. I think when I get home I’ll be making them all the time... not so sure!!

On our final day I did a yoga class on the roof then a group of us went to a hotel called ... by the lake and enjoyed using their rooftop pool. The view from the pool was great and the food and drinks there were also fab! It was nice to chill out there for the day and kinda get away from the hussle and bussle of the town.

For our final evening we went on a boat ride and watched the sunset on the lake before enjoying another curry for dinner!
