I got a very early bus from El Nido to Port Barton. The journey itself was actually vile - the driver seemed like he was trying to get a personal best in the time it took him to do the journey and the roads were so windy so it wasn’t a fun 3 hours! Anyway when I arrived in Port Barton it was just before lunchtime, I checked into my homestay and took a wonder around town before spending the afternoon on the beach. It was like no where I’d been before in the Philippines, a very sleepy town with not many people around. I’d read online that coming from El Nido it can be quite a shock but actually I loved the change! There was still lots of tourists around but the beach wasn’t busy so you could enjoy the space! There was also still lots of choices of restaurants and the food was in my opinion better than El Nido! (Because it didn’t give me food poisoning like El Nido!)
The next day me and a friend got a boat taxi over to the white beach which was around 20 minutes away. It was a nice secluded beach with just 1 hotel and restaurant but why it was called white beach I don’t know?! The sand wasn’t white, so there was a little bit of oversell there but it was beautiful none the less! We walked to a bar called the ‘Jungle Bar’ for lunch which was high in the jungle with a nice view over Port Barton. It was a really chilled out bar with lots of cushions and blankets. The food was also really good.
I spent the afternoon lazing around in the hammocks on the beach then headed back to Port Barton in time for happy hour and the amazing sunset. They say that the Philippines has some of the best sunsets in the world and I definitely agree!
On my last day in Port Barton we decided to treck to the Pamuayan waterfall which took around an hour and a half. We left early to try and avoid the heat but it was still a sweaty, uphill walk! Thankfully we could cool off in the waterfall before trecking an hour and a half back to town! It probably wasn’t the best idea to walk there in flip flops but you live and learn! It was really nice to see the waterfall and there was only 3 other people there when we were there so we basically had the waterfall to ourselves!
We got back to town and had noodles for lunch before enjoying the afternoon on the beach! I got stung by a jellyfish so that wasn’t so fun but I avoided going in the sea for the rest of the day after that!
For our last night in Port Barton a group of us had dinner and we went to one of the bars on the beach to see some live music and fire dancing.
I was getting up very early the next day to visit the underground river in Sabang! My next post will be all about that.
